Missing ‘Folder Options’ in Windows Explorer

Posted in: PC Support, Technology, Windows

It is possible for the “Folder Options” choice to be missing from the “Tools” menu within Windows Explorer, try this to restore the “Folder Options” if you are running Windows XP Pro:

  1. Click Start | Run
  2. Type gpedit.msc
  3. This opens the Group Policy Editor, in the left pane navigate to User Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Windows Explorer
  4. In the right pane, enable and then disable the item “Removes Folder Options menu from Tools menu”
  5. Close all Explorer windows.

When you reopen Windows Explorer and goto the “Tools” menu you should see the “Folder Options” menu option there.

If this does not work to restore the “Folder Options”, it is possible to enable it via the registry. Go to the following site and download the registry file and import it.

Scroll down to number 129 – “Restore Folder Options Under Tools”:
